DOCKSIDE TERMINOLOGY
| Floater | Floating dock system normally used in tidal or fluctuating conditions. |
| Mean High Water (MHW) | Most Central Florida lakes are surveyed for elevation according to sea level. Ten year low is averaged (NLW) with the ten year high and the 100-year high; this is done to establish street and finished floor elevations to prevent future flooding. |
| Normal low water (NLW) | The level at which is the ten-year low |
| Piles | Supporting posts for the dock, 4x4, 4x6, 6x6 in size. |
| Post exposed left tall | Dock contruction where piings rise above decking. |
| Post exposed buried | Dock construction where pilings are lower than the deck. |
| Pressure treated lumber | PT= rated by amount of CCA in lumber. 0.25 - for above ground usage; 0.40 - for freshwater ground contact; 0.60 - for salt or brackish water ground contact where evidence of muck borers exist. |
| Tounge and groove | 2x6 pressure treated ground contact interloConsidered on the landward side of the MHW.cking boards primarily used for retaining walls. |
| Retaining wall | Considered on the landward side of the MHW |
| Sea wall | Considered on the waterward side of the MHW. |
| Cradle lift | A lifting device used in the boat house, very similar to a drive-on boat trailer. Boat rests on carpeted bunks. |
| Davit | A Mechanical hoisting device for lifting smaller boats and water craft. |
| Four-point lift | Hoisting system to lift up boat from four equal positions; cables hook to either belly strap or cable. |
| Web sling designed .................................... | Nylon belt with galvanized eyes sewn into the ends designed for lifting the boat; also referred to as belly strap |
